Again 06:28
You were here Inside your thoughts I can’t see Tracing pictures of all the times We were free And the day for being is lost Day for this is gone You would play In neighbour’s yards I would watch in awe and smile Again you seem so calm Again We’ve been watching You’ve been holding out your hand and we see Hazy eyes and happy smile But you were calling We’ve been watching You’ve been holding out your hand and we see Hazy eyes and happy smile But you were calling We’re all watching You’re just trying Too long we didn’t
2.
Water 06:56
I calm my mind, for To stand beside you Water moves through me Glide from the edge Out to watch the sun Surely set to rise As I breathe And sigh Rise to set surely sun the watch Out edge the from glide Rise to set surely sun the watch Out edge the from glide
3.
Autumn 05:25
Autumn’s here for a while Until winter falls The leaves on the trees grow cold Seasons pass like a storm They’re here, then they’re gone Our luck is they will return Spring has sprung And the leaves will grow Summer sun Makes them green Autumn’s here And the leaves will fall The trees survive Once again Spring has sprung And the leaves will grow Summer sun Makes them green Autumn’s here And the leaves will fall The trees survive Once again
4.
Leaves 05:47
Leaves linger On oak wood limbs Leaves rustle Leaves fall down To pools below Of others Float through playgrounds Drift away In memories But why are memories black and white? Why? Dawn is calm as ocean waves Fog settles Sunrise ends a past of dark Past your sight As wind playfully dances through the leaves Float through playgrounds Drift away In memories But why are memories black and white? Why?

about

"Honest, heartfelt, cinematic and cathartic; all thoughtfully arranged and beautifully executed" - Matthew Sheens

In contemplation I look through my bedroom window to a clear evening sky. Golden sunlight dances through luscious foliage. My hands make shapes on a plastic-keyed piano. Colours of yellow, blue and orange stream through my consciousness - I hear ever-changing reflections of times passed. My hands create patterns, improvising without thought. I feel heartbroken.

I am reminded by your absence that life is unforgiving, unexpected, unfair. You're where we will all be some day - a part of the land.

I acknowledge that this work was created on stolen land. I pay my respect to its true owners - the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. I would like to thank them for caring for this beautiful region for over 80,000 years. It is thanks to their knowledge, wisdom and tireless work that I can find comfort and inspiration in this beautiful country.

Featured in this recording is vocalist and long-time collaborator Rose Bassett. Rose and I met at university where our love for music, humour and politics combined. We’ve been involved in a variety of projects together, and I am once again so privileged to work with such an incredible musician and friend.

Each song on this EP aims to paint its own landscape. I hope you find comfort in these images.

about

Jake Amy Melbourne, Australia

Naarm-based pianist Jake Amy is one of Australia’s most exciting nu-jazz keyboardists. Their sound synthesises up-tempo future-sonic jazz with hip-hop breakbeats, luscious synth harms, afro-cuban grooves, and absolute virtuosity.
