about

Movement is an instrumental joint which pays homage to the pioneers of electro, and is heavily inspired by the rise of jazz/house music in the Melbourne scene.

**

I'M SO EXCITED TO RELEASE NEW MUSIC! Especially this track - we recorded it in my tiny bedroom mid summer while it was reallllllly toasting... bass, drums and keys. Unfortunately I don't have air con in my house. After the jam session, I felt so inspired that I immediately started producing the track, grabbing percussion samples from previous sessions with Lucky Pereira. Inspired by some of my favourite artists at the time (Horatio Luna / Z.F.E.X. / Tiana Khasi / Allysha Joy and Barney McAll), I locked myself in my room with an OB6 synthesizer and recorded overdubs in about 30 minutes.

I actually really struggled to put this song out as my previous work is totally different. I wondered how it would fit in and debated about whether or not I considered it "revolutionary" as part of my overall artistry and musical journey. All music I have released has historically explored particular advanced compositional concepts. I felt that this song didn't contain anything exceptionally different to music I had listened to and been inspired by, but perhaps its familiarity was why I was drawn to listening to it and why I LOVED the production process so much.

I would say that this track is about the lack of freedom and focus to THINK. At times I have become so busy that I live my life just going from one thing to the next. In those times I find myself thinking about not much at all... music for sure, but other things? What other things?

HOPE YOU DIG IT! And if you do, please come to a show.

"There is such good music coming out of so-called Australia right now. It's wild... There's a new Jake Amy tune called Movement that is beautiful. [It's] so well produced." - Allysha Joy (30/70)

"Coupla new bits of what's happening in the Melbourne-jazz come electronica scene... Jake Amy... a great keyboard player who plays in a tonne of bands around town. They're worth catching. They've been doing some great music and playing some really exciting gigs lately." - Mike Gurrieri (Mystic Brew on PBS)

about

Jake Amy Melbourne, Australia

Naarm-based pianist Jake Amy is one of Australia’s most exciting nu-jazz keyboardists. Their sound synthesises up-tempo future-sonic jazz with hip-hop breakbeats, luscious synth harms, afro-cuban grooves, and absolute virtuosity.
